Glenwood clobbers Battle Mountain, 82-25

GLENWOOD SPRINGS - For all the big names lacing Glenwood Springs' girls basketball roster, there are plenty of younger girls who don't get a ton of court time.

One by one, each and every Demon found her way into the scorebook on Friday, as Glenwood put on an offensive clinic in an 82-25 win over visiting Battle Mountain.

And the home crowd ate it up, cheering with a little extra volume as each reserve dropped in a bucket.

"Those girls work just as hard in practice," Demons coach Bryan Derby said. "It's great to be able to put them in a game like this where everybody scores. It's just great team basketball."

Derby's Demons created the opportunity for reserve play in the very early going, leaving no doubt of the outcome by scoring the game's first nine points and putting 32 first-quarter points on the board.

As far as Derby can remember, he's never had a team churn out that much offense in one quarter.

"I don't think we have this year," he said. "I don't think, by my book, we have ever (scored that many points)."

Though the Demons, now 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the Class 4A Western Slope League, relaxed their attack as the game wore on, their point total still seemed to rise exponentially.

There were just too many easy looks, thanks much to stellar ball movement.

Sister guards Sharaya and Katrina Selsor, who finished with 18 assists between them, were the chief culprits in that department. Katrina finished with 12 of those to go with her 20 points.

Center Kelsie Hert also poured in 20 points for the Demons, adding 15 rebounds and two blocks to her stat ledger. Sharaya threw in 14 points, followed by Chelsea Vallario with eight and Laura Young with seven.

Rounding out the scorebook for the Demons were Avery Denney with four points, Natasha Derby with three and Sarah Treese, Chandra Breager and Breanna Richardson with two apiece.

Kenia Olivas and Emily LyBarger led Battle Mountain, now 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the 4A WSL, with seven points apiece. Kyleight Quintana added five points.

Friday's blowout win came on the heels of the Demons' 67-48 rout of Eagle Valley on Tuesday. Up this Tuesday for Glenwood is a trip to Palisade, which entered Friday 3-0 in the 4A WSL.

After a tough loss to the Bulldogs last season, it's a game the Demons badly want to win.

"That's what we were discussing (after the game)," said Derby. "We owe Palisade one from a loss last year. We'll come in Monday focused in practice and get ready to get the job done on Tuesday."
