GRAND JUNCTION — Forwards Bernadette Pitre and Holly Odneal combined for a season-best 41 points between them, yet it wasn’t enough to force Glenwood Springs into its first loss in league play.
Senior Sharaya Selsor scored a career-high 35 points, which included five, 3-point field goals, in a 73-61 victory that raised the unbeaten, first-place Demons to 6-0 in the Class 4A Western Slope League.
Palisade, who hoped to join Glenwood at the top of the league standings, fell to 4-2 on the defeat.
Selsor said a late-season loss to Palisade last year rallied the Demons into action.
“Last year we played really poorly and they came out and had a great game,” she said. “We just wanted to come out and gain a little of our pride back.”
After watching Palisade rally back to a 23-all tie in the second quarter Selsor took charge. The slim forward, who has already signed to play basketball at Metro State next year, ripped off 12 points in the period, scoring Glenwood’s last three baskets in the quarter to open a 39-26 lead at the half.
The Demons never trailed from that point on.
Pitre recorded her eighth double-double of the season, hitting for 24 points and 11 rebounds. Odneal recovered from a poor effort in last week’s win over Steamboat Springs, with 17 points.
Glenwood will be back in action on Friday when it will travel to Delta for another league contest at 6 p.m.
