JOHNSTOWN — Coal Ridge’s dream season came to and end on Friday night as the Titan girls basketball team fell to Roosevelt 74-42 in the first round of the John Marule Regional Tournament at Roosevelt High School.
After finishing fourth in the Class 3A District 2 Tournament, Coal Ridge got a tough draw as the No. 8 seed having to take on No. 1 Roosevelt (22-1) on its own court in the first round.
Details from the game were unavailable at press time.
Coal Ridge (12-11) made it further than any girls basketball team before it in the three-year history of the school by qualifying for regionals.
Despite the loss, things look bright for the Titans as they will have mostly the same team back next year as no seniors are currently on the squad.
Some of Coal Ridge’s Western Slope League opponents also had their seasons ended on Friday as Hotchkiss lost to Ellicott 40-35 and Olathe fell to Bishop Machebeuf 43-36. Top-seeded Basalt advanced to its regional championship by defeating Peak to Peak 66-41 on Friday night on its home court.
