Christmas tree-cutting permits available starting Saturday
The Christmas tree-cutting season on the White River National Forest kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 16, with permits now available for purchase.
Residents can obtain permits through district offices, local vendors, or online via recreation.gov.
Permits purchased in person at district offices or from local vendors cost $10 per tree, while online purchases come with an added $2.50 processing fee.
The forest service has also partnered with the Every Kid Outdoors program to offer fourth graders a free Christmas tree permit. To participate, students must register at everykidoutdoors.gov and can then redeem their free permit by presenting their printed voucher at a district office or online through Recreation.gov, where the $2.50 fee still applies.
Permits are intended for personal use only, with a maximum of five permits allowed per individual.
Those planning to cut their own tree are encouraged to check the White River National Forest’s website for detailed information on district office locations, local vendors, regulations, maps, and online purchase links.
Given the unpredictable winter weather, visitors are advised to be mindful of snow accumulation and seasonal road closures, which can affect accessibility.
Permit holders should plan ahead, as all sales are final.
Information on road conditions and downloadable maps can be found on the Forest Service’s website to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all participants.
