Roaring Fork School District announces administrative changes

The Roaring Fork School District announced two administrative changes via a pair of news releases on Wednesday, appointing Christy Chicoine as the new chief financial officer and transitioning former Public Information Officer Jonathan Landon to a new role as senior project manager and executive assistant to the board of education.

Chicoine, previously the finance director at Garfield Re-2 for over 16 years, was recognized by Superintendent Anna Cole for her financial management and transparency. She steps into her new role following the departure of former Chief Financial Officer Nathan Markham.

“Throughout the interview process, Christy’s depth of experience, commitment to community, and demonstrated excellence in school and municipal financial leadership shone,” Cole said in the release. “We are delighted to welcome Christy to the Roaring Fork Schools and support her, the finance team, and district stakeholders through the CFO transition process.”

Chicoine expressed her excitement about her new role.

“I enjoy working for the community and making a difference,” Chicoine said in the release. “Financial transparency and accountability focuses resources toward the goals of the organization and the community to increase positive results over time. While it will take time to learn the ropes at the District, I am excited to bring the same focus to Roaring Fork School District as I have achieved in my previous roles.”

Landon, who previously served as chief-of-staff and public information officer, will no longer be the district’s designated PIO, ceasing his oversight of media relations and the communications department.

“Over the last year, it has been a distinct honor and privilege to provide communications to and about our incredibly committed and talented staff, to serve our school families in the communities of Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, and Basalt, and to regularly engage with our local media partners,” Landon said in the release. “I look forward to continuing to serve our Board of Education and Carbondale District Office in the 2024/2025 school year and beyond.”

Cole expressed her strong support for Landon’s transition to a new role.

“We are happy to support Jonathan in this shifted focus and targeted role,” Cole said in the release. “He brings a wealth of experience to the work and will continue to help our leadership teams advance the district mission and priorities.”
