UPDATE: I-70 reopens through Glenwood Canyon following crash cleanup

UPDATE 1:49 P.M. THURSDAY, SEPT. 19: Interstate 70 eastbound is now reopened through Glenwood Canyon. Westbound lanes never closed Thursday and remain open.

Original story:

Interstate 70 at mile-marker 116 heading eastbound is closed as of 11 a.m. for accident cleanup following a semi-truck rollover that occurred on Tuesday morning, according to a 10:55 a.m. Garfield County Emergency Alerts notification.

The closure was initially planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday to allow crews to clean up debris after a semi-truck, traveling westbound, crashed through a guardrail and rolled into the eastbound lane. The closure was postponed due to a rockslide in Steamboat Springs on Wednesday. The Tuesday accident, which occurred near Exit 122 in Glenwood Springs, briefly shut down both directions of the canyon but kept eastbound lanes closed for more than 12 hours.

The Post Independent will continue to update this story.
