White River National Forest Supervisor Office closes to public in Glenwood Springs
The U.S. Forest Service said in a news release on Monday that the White River National Forest Supervisor Office in Glenwood Springs will be closed to the public until further notice due to a lack of staffing.
“We regret any inconvenience this may cause,” said Scott Fitzwilliams, White River Forest supervisor. “We are looking for solutions to our staffing issues. We do not have an estimate for when the Supervisor’s Office will be reopened.”
The Supervisor’s Office public room had restricted hours this past autumn because of limited personnel. With this last seasonal position departure this month, the office will be closed.
Permits for fuelwood, mushroom, post and pole and transplant must be obtained in person at the ranger district office. Christmas tree permits and camping reservations are available at recreation.gov.
The closest office locations in Garfield County are the Rifle Ranger District at 0094 County Road 244 in Rifle or the Eagle-Holy Cross Ranger District at 24747 US Highway 24 in Minturn.
The Aspen-Sopris District Office in Carbondale is expected to remain closed until next summer in 2025 while the new building is completed.
